China worried over US-India naval exercise

BEIJING: China's foreign ministry has expressed concerns about plans for cluster naval exercises involving India, Japan and the United States, saying it "should not be targeted at a third party".

There is a feeling among Chinese experts that US is trying to persuade India to take a stand against Beijing's interest. US Admiral Harry Harris's comment on Wednesday that the US, India, Japan and Australia should initiate a quadrilateral security dialogue has only heightened fears.

The US wants to hold the next naval exercise in the northern Philippine Sea, which is close to the disputed South China Sea this year.
