Salute Siachen: India's first-ever celebrity expedition to Siachen honours the Indian Army
In India's first-ever celebrity expedition to the treacherous heights of Siachen, a band of nine stars from Bollywood, television and sports world is undertaking the adventure to salute the spirit of the Indian Army.
A band of nine actors, models and sports personalities are coming together to pay their respects to the Indian Army in one of the most daring ways possible; by scaling the scary territories of the Siachen glacier.
Why such an expedition all of a sudden?
In April 1981, the Indian Army made history by traversing the uncharted Siachen, also known as the Third Pole. It is in a delayed celebration of this day's 35th anniversary that Eros Now is launching this ground breaking initiative.
Eros Now, which is the leading OTT platform of Eros International Plc, has named this expedition 'Salute Siachen'. With nine celebrity adventurers from different walks of life, this would also make its mark as India's first-ever celebrity expedition to the Siachen glacier.
Who are the participating celebrities?
This daring expedition will see actors like Arjun Rampal, Rannvijay Singh, Arunoday Singh, Sonnalli Seygall (of Pyaar Ka Punchnama fame), filmmaker Shlok Sharma, TV actor Hasan Zaidi, and model Namrata Gujaran.
Along with them will be cricketer RP Singh and hockey player Yuvraj Walmiki.
Retracing and reliving the Indian Army's arduous journey to the world's 2nd longest glacier, this band of celebrities will head out for their 20-day expedition this Independence Day.
The Salute Siachen expedition will begin at Leh with a five-day acclimatization trek to Stok Kangri base camp. Once geared to face the journey ahead, the celebrity participants will proceed to Siachen Base Camp for the expedition to Kumar Post, which lies at a height of 15,632 feet.
This opportunity must not have come easy, as all the participants had to undergo rigorous training to prepare themselves of such a trip.
'Army effort being appreciated by a grateful nation'
Eros Digital CEO Rishika Lulla Singh, while announcing the expedition today, said, "We have gathered a team of notable individuals who have come on board in support of this mission to Siachen and become ambassadors in expressing the nation's gratitude towards the valour of these brave soldiers."
Calling this expedition their "landmark initiative", Eros Now Business Head Zulfiqar Khan said Salute Siachen will be "giving the world a glimpse into the lives of our real heroes at Siachen."
He added that this expedition will be documented by the adventurers and showcased on Eros Now.
Colonel Narendra "Bull" Kumar, the soldier who planted the Tricolour on the Siachen Glacier in 1981 and made it a part of Indian territory, commented on this expedition saying he was "very happy" that civilians are taking this initiative.
Colonel Narendra "Bull" Kumar, the soldier who planted the Tricolour on the Siachen Glacier in 1981 and made it a part of Indian territory, commented on this expedition saying he was "very happy" that civilians are taking this initiative.
"Of all my exploits in the mountains, this was the most pivotal one for me," he said. "Thirty-five years later, I am very happy that civilians from all walks of life are going to Siachen to see for themselves the hardships our soldiers are undergoing there, and to show them that their efforts are being appreciated by a grateful nation."
We wish this band of daredevil celebrities best of luck on their expedition to salute the Indian Army.
