SECRET for 70 YEARS: Nazis DID invade Britain in WWII (but commandos wiped them out)

NAZI Stormtroopers landed on British soil in a sabotage operation during the World War II, one of the Germans behind the raid has revealed.

The Hitler-backed German special forces who landed on the Isle of Wight expected to meet lightly armed members of the Home Guard – Britain’s so-called “Dads’ Army”.

But they in fact faced crack British commandos who all bit wiped them out.

And, for morale and propaganda reasons, the entire event was erased from, history.

But now Dr Dietrich Andernacht has claimed he was part of a top secret operation to steal equipment from RAF St Lawrence radar station on August 15 1943, in a book by historian Adrian Searle.

The official line has always maintained that no Germans forces made it onto British soil during the war, aside from the Channel Islands.

Churchill’s Last Wartime Secret: The 1943 German Raid Airbrushed from History describes that in the raid 12 German soldiers were transported via U-boat from the Channel Islands that were under Nazi occupation.

The troops made it ashore in dinghies but were soon spotted and were repelled after a gun battle with the British soldiers.

Mr Searle said: “The Germans had a relatively easy crossing but I think they were shocked to be met by regular British soldiers rather than the Home Guard. It is unclear whether any British soldiers were killed or wounded. This incident was wiped from the war history within hours of it taking place, with witnesses made to sign the Official Secrets Act.

“It is time for the government to come clean. This incident should be added to Britain’s wartime story.”

According to Mr Searle’s account the German troops made it to the radar station on the island, looking for cathode-ray direction finding equipment.

A log book from the time kept by the Air Raid Precautions (ARP) service noted: “Special Report, police report two dinghies full of Germans in the sea. Seen at 02.18hrs, reported to police through Navy.”

A teenage dispatch rider for the ARP at the time, Derek Kent, said that the authorities moved quickly to cover up the incident in a bid to safeguard public morale.

Mr Kent said: “We heard about it when we were sent to the area. They said the Germans had been spotted out to sea off St Lawrence. Just a day later a man dressed in a suit came down to see us and I was asked to sign the Official Secrets Act.”
