Another mishap in Indian Navy, fire on INS Pralay

The mishap prone Indian Navy witnessed yet another incident on Tuesday when a fire broke out in INS Pralay, a Veer class corvette. INS Pralay is currently at the Mumbai Naval Dock yard when the fire broke out.

The Mumbai Fire Brigade did not have to be called as the Navy who called the fire a 'minor one' managed to extinguish it on their own. Navy officials later released a statement claiming that the fire broke out at 11.40am at the Gyro compartment of the ship, (probably during the welding work). It claimed that the fire was controlled and extinguished by the ship’s own personnel as well as the Dockyard Fire station and that no one has suffered any injuries.

In the last six years alone more than 25 people have been killed in Naval accidents. The highest number of casualties was when 18 saliors died when a blast took place at the torpedo compartment of INS Sindhurakshak at the Naval Dockyard off Mumbai’s coast. In fact the last such incident happened just a month back when INS Betwa that was being docked at the Mumbai Dock yard tipped over, two Naval soldiers lost their lives in the incident and 14 others were injured.
